Gas dissolved in subsurface water
Abstract

A literature survey and analysis of the amounts of methane that are dissolved in formation water. It appears that fair amounts of gas may be present in sedimentary basins, although in competition with other gases, such as CO2, N2 and higher alkanes as well as salts.

When sediments are uplifted (inversion), gas may come out of solution and form a gas charge for traps that is significant enough to take into account in modeling.
